| Dr. Paolo Visona |
| Dr. Paolo Visona` was born in the Veneto region of Italy and received a doctoral degree in Classics at the University of Padua. He holds a M.A. in Ancient Art from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Ph.D. in Classical Art and Archaeology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Dr. Visona` has excavated in the Great Basin and Southern Californa, in northern Italy, in Israel, at Carthage in North Africa, and in the Ivory Coast. Since 1987 he has been directing the excavation of the Hellenistic and Roman site of Contrada Mella (ancient Mamertion?) in southwestern Calabria with a permit by the Italian Ministry for the Preservation of Cultural Resources. Abstracts of field reports on the excavations at contrada Mella have been published regularly in the American Journal of Archaeology since 1988. Dr. Visona`, a Registered Professional Archaeologist, is currently a Visiting Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Kentucky at Lexington. He can be contacted c/o : |
